There are two major skiing centres within easy reach (about 30 mins drive) of Ballater, The Lecht and Glenshee. Both offer superb skiing when the conditions are right and ski hire is readily available. Lary Cottage is a great base for skiers, it is really warm for the return after a hard day on the slopes and the Aga is a great welcome.
